Vasculitic neuropathy.

چکیده
Vasculitis is a common and treatable cause of neuropathy. In most cases, necrotizing arteritis of the type observed in polyarteritis nodosa is responsible for the lesions, but classification of vasculitis is still uncertain. The neuropathy often occurs in the context of a multisystem disorder, but in a substantial proportion of patients, especially among patients seen by neurologists, the neuropathy is the first and only manifestation of vasculitis. In such cases, the diagnosis can only be reached by performance of a nerve and muscle biopsy. Ischaemic nerve lesions can also result from secondary vasculitis in a number of inflammatory, infectious and immune-mediated disorders of the peripheral nervous system.

Nerve Ultrasound as a Decisive Tool in Nonsystemic Vasculitic Neuropathy: A Case Report
INTRODUCTION The additional value of peripheral nerve ultrasound in acquired immune-mediated neuropathies has recently been reported. Its impact in vasculitic neuropathy is yet to be defined. We report electrophysiological and nerve ultrasound studies in a patient with nonsystemic vasculitic neuropathy at first diagnosis and in response to immunosuppression. CASE REPORT A 44-year-old female p...
متن کاملSural nerve T-cell receptor Vbeta gene utilization in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy and vasculitic neuropathy.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the utilization of T-cell receptor (TCR) variable (V) regions in infiltrates of sural nerve biopsies of patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and vasculitic neuropathy. BACKGROUND The presence of infiltrating T lymphocytes in sural nerve biopsies may suggest a T cell-mediated immune mechanism in the pathogenesis of CIDP and vasculitic ...
متن کاملExpression of accessory molecules for T-cell activation in peripheral nerve of patients with CIDP and vasculitic neuropathy.
Vasculitic neuropathy and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) are neuropathies characterized by a T-lymphocyte infiltrate in the peripheral nerves. The microenvironment in which these T cells become activated, and the molecules and cells that play a role in this process are incompletely understood. Using immunohistochemical analysis, we studied the effect of the presence of...
متن کاملSkin denervation in vasculitic neuropathy.
BACKGROUND Skin denervation in vasculitic neuropathy has rarely been documented despite frequent manifestations of small-fiber neuropathy including reduced sensitivity and neuropathic pain. Recently, skin biopsy has been established as a new approach to diagnose small-fiber sensory neuropathy. OBJECTIVES To investigate the pathologic features of cutaneous nerves and to evaluate inflammatory v...
متن کاملP-ANCA vasculitic neuropathy with 12-year latency between onset of neuropathy and systemic symptoms
BACKGROUND The differential diagnosis of chronic progressive multifocal asymmetric neuropathies is challenging. Vasculitic neuropathies, multifocal forms of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, multifocal motor neuropathies, and asymmetric lower motor neuron disorders are important considerations. CASE PRESENTATION We report a patient with an unusually long 12-year course of non...
متن کاملVasculitic Neuropathy Following Exposure to a Glyphosate-based Herbicide
We herein report a case of peripheral neuropathy following exposure to large amounts of glyphosate-based herbicide. A 70-year-old man suffered from pain and purpura in the left sole following exposure to glyphosate-based herbicide. Pain and purpura spread to the opposite side and increased in severity. Mild weakness of the lower limbs was also observed. A sural nerve biopsy revealed the infiltr...
